This is a terrible diagnosis and one I should never have gotten at my age. I can not being to explain fully what it is so I suggest these websites for a deeper understanding:
Aging Eye
LEF-MD Protocol

Of course there are many other websites out there that I could have listed but those two are really good! And what I used to change my diagnosis.

I thought I was so smart, going in for a consultation at a Lasix Center here. I have always wanted Lasix so I was pretty excited at this free opportunity. To make a long story short a routine exam showed what are called "Drusen" or floaters in my eyes specifically my macula. Hence the name Macula Degeneration or AMD or MD for short (Age-related Macular Degeneration). The doctors, called me in a private room, did an additional testing on me and said I needed to come in tomorrow and see the specialist. That was scarey.

I have to say I went home, and fell into a pity party, fearful of what might happen (go blind), and cried! I was suppose to go in the next morning but I decided to postpone. Lets be real I was just afraid of what they would say! So for a few weeks after my pity party - I prayed, and started to educate myself real quick. I just could not comprehend why this was happening to me now. I now know why.

I AM NOT RECOMMEDING THIS FOR YOU! ONLY THAT IT WORKED FOR ME:

After finding out the deeper root of why MD can happen and understanding what Drusen really is caused by especially free radicals, no lutein, etc. We must take antioxidants! Anyways I decided - prayerfully decided to take a year and really seriously take recommended vitamins, minerals supplements, hormones, etc for eye health. I took it all from http://www.lef.org/ (Life Extension): http://www.lef.org/protocols/eye_ear/macular_degeneration_02.htm

■Super Zeaxanthin with Lutein and Meso-zeaxanthin

■Lipoic acid
■Taurine
■Coenzyme Q10
■Life Extension Mix
■Life Extension Booster
■Super EPA/DHA w/ Sesame Lignans (or Xymogen Omega 600/780) I took Super but then switched to Xymogen

LONG STORY SHORT - LAST MONTH I WENT TO AN OPTHOMOLOGIST FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MY MD DIAGNOSIS. AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING FROM A VERY GOOD DOCTOR I SAW FOR MYSELF PICTURES OF MY EYEBALLS/MACUALA/ ETC AND WELL....I DO NOT HAVE MACULAR DEGENERATION EITHER THE DRY OR THE WET!!! ☺IT IS JUST GONE. DRUSEN GONE, FLOATERS GONE!

PRAYING & BELIEVING, AND THEN DOING WHAT YOU FEEL YOU ARE BEING LED TO DO, WHICH FOR ME WAS SUPPLEMENTING - IT WORKS!! THERE IS HOPE!!
Thank You God!!!

Lupron Investigation - A MUST SEE...

My Cousin & his wife have been interviewed by KNTV Channel 13, in Las Vegas. I can remember her sitting at the kitchen table with grapefruit, juice and either oatmeal or cereal. But then she would gather around her all these bottles of vitamins. She would explain to me how I needed to take vitamins like her. Of course I didn't then, nor did I when my mom would tell me as a young woman to. However....I do now!

What might have been if I had only listened to such wisdom? What would my body be like now? Oh and guess what? My own kids hear me telling them the same things "take your vitamins".

I did the whole buy 'em at GNC, Walgreens, Walmart or Target. That was until I realized they are not all created the same! I would take vitamins and "feel" nothing. No tangible changes. That is until I found Life Extension (LEF).

(LEF) makes a difference, I see and feel changes - my whole family does. There really is a HUGE quality, quantity, ingredients, difference!

What I have come to realize is this - Either I better eat what my body is "telling" me it needs (or doesn't need). Or I had better suck it up and swallow all the vitamins, minerals, & herbs that my body is craving. Because if I don't my body will lack necessary nutrients and will "show" me it is, thru terrible symptoms and diseases.

For instance I hate peas, hate 'em won't go near 'em, the smell makes me want to vomit! I don't care if they are Garden, Snow, Green, or Snap - will NOT TOUCH 'EM!! But peas are Legumes and sources of 8 vitamins & 7 minerals. Vitamins B1, B6, B2, C, K1 and Iron just to name a few. So if I won't eat them - and I won't, I am "starving" my body of those particular nutrients & vitamins. Now I know that I actually eat other foods that will give me those vitamins & minerals. But what if I didn't? Well then I would be asking for symptoms and even diseases from that lack.

My mom for instance (love you mom) - will not eat broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts. These are all "Cruciferous Vegetables". They are VITAL for breaking down carcinogens, and neutralizing "dangerous breakdown products of estrogen that promote cancer growth" Read more- Life Extension Oct 2009 Magazine, Pg 79-80. So what mom needs to be taking to replace the lack of eating "Cruciferous Vegetables is indole-3-carbinol (I3C) (You do mom).

That way when estrogen follows 1 of 2 metabolic pathways converting to either the bad "16-alpha-hydroxyestrone" (breast & other cancer risk increased) or the good "2-hydroxyestrone" (breast & other cancer risk decreased) the "Cruciferous Vegetables" or supplement (I3C) are "effective in shifting estrogen metabolism to the more beneficial pathway thus reducing levels of toxic "16-alpha-hydroxyestrone" and increasing levels of "2-hydroxyestrone". Read more- Life Extension Oct 2009 Magazine, Pg 79-80 Thereby reducing the risk of getting breast cancer.

If you are as stubborn as I am on some foods (aren't we all?) then for goodness sake at the very least - take supplements in place of them.

So....Eat Your Veggies or Swallow Supplements!! -Just Do It!

If Estrogen Dominant-Do We Stay That Way?

I have been battling with this question ever since I read Dr Uzzi Reiss's books "Natural Hormone Balance", and "The Natural Superwoman". I did not even know this terminology until then. But his books have a way of explaining case scenarios that you can then ask yourself which category you fall into?

For me I have determined that all my life, and even at a very young age I was and really still am, "Estrogen Dominant". Not that I only have Estrogen but more that I either do not have enough Progesterone, or I don't have enough Estrogen and Progesterone. Yes, even after a total hysterectomy with both ovaries removed. Meaning I do not produce my own Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone because my ovaries (organs) are no longer there. This is due to pure ignorance on my part!! I stand in line with many, many, many women who have had them removed for NO medical reason - other than trusting your doctor's advice and "hey while we are in there, I'm not going to have anymore kids so take 'em out". DUH!!

Anyways, I have been searching for an answer to do "Estrogen Dominant" woman stay that way even after a hysterectomy with no ovaries? Here is what I have found on my good ole LEF:
"Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, which is sometimes performed in conjunction with an ophorectomy or ovariectomy, which is the surgical removal of the ovaries. Doctors often perform a hysterectomy to alleviate patient discomforts associated with conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and heavy menses. These conditions, however, are often related to a relative dominance of estrogen. Removal of the uterus does not correct the underlying imbalance that may have contributed to these conditions in the first place. Many medical professionals believe that once the uterus has been removed, there is no need to supplement with progesterone. Clinical experience and a review of the scientific literature, however, make it clear that unopposed estrogen therapy can lead to many undesirable health conditions. When women are young, they have optimal levels of all the steroid hormones, not just estrogen. Replacing only estrogen after a complete hysterectomy is a sure-fire way to increase existing estrogen dominance. Whether a woman has a uterus or not, research suggests that estrogen replacement therapy should not be given without natural progesterone."

So from this I say - yes, yes you can because it is an "existing" way our body is naturally "bent" on producing hormones and our receptors for those of us who were "Estrogen Dominant" before our hysterectomies. This tells me I have to be careful of "tweaking" my estrogen to progesterone ratios bc of estrogen dominance. And it definitely tells me I need progesterone. You may be different - you may be the same. Only YOU can figure that out for yourself.

As I have mentioned before start a journal. Journal how you "feel" daily and take time to remember how were you as a young woman? How were your periods? How were your emotions? Acne? Were you sweaty and clammy? Did you suffer with depression, migraines, etc? This is where you will discover so much. And for you ladies who have daughters wow you will be helping her understand herself more by you discovering you, and she gets to learn from your understanding. Chances are she is going through the exact same issues you did. My daughter is and I learn from her as she learns from me!

So as a young woman I was told I would never have kids, I would have to have a hysterectomy then, etc. I suffered horrendous periods, tons of exploratory laparoscopies (surgeries). Many cysts, endometriosis (this was before that word was really even discussed) now its every woman everywhere!! For me, I was given Synarel (now its Lupron shots) to induce menopause and shrink my uterus to the size of a walnut. BIG MISTAKE! I had no real comprehension of what I was doing to my body. I was putting it in menopause! The hot flashes, chin hair, body aches, hives, breakouts, migraines, depression, hair falling out, weight gain, etc was hitting me like a Mack truck! I never was the same again!

Ladies NEVER DO THIS!! I KNOW you’re in pain; you want answers, quick relief! Instead before going under the knife, castrating yourself, setting yourself up for suffering both emotional and physical - investigate as to what you are out of imbalance in. Read that again - it says "Doctors often perform a hysterectomy to alleviate patient discomforts associated with conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and heavy menses. These conditions, however, are often related to a relative dominance of estrogen."

So if you are dominant in Estrogen your answer just may lie in adding in progesterone, or increasing both. It may lay in just a teeny dose of a bioidentical cream, gel, pellet or pill. I take Progesterone 100mg oil (olive) capsule from Anazoa. Just $25 a month. LEF also offers estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and so much more.

ARE YOU EXPERIENCING THESE SYMPTOMS?
• Endometriosis
• Menstrual Cramps
• Migraines
• Depression
• Hair Loss
• Fibroid Breasts or Tumors
• PMS Symptoms
• Fatigue
Then you just might be "Estrogen Dominant" - The only way to find out for sure is to have blood tests and have a qualified doctor read the results. LEF does just that.

For me paying a fee to have a blood test done, of under $300, and then buy hormone replacement sounds a whole lot better than spending thousands (mine was $10,000); in co-pays, dr appt, hospital stays, etc and still not have a answers. To me it makes more sense. Your body has too much or not enough of what it was suppose to have so it "acts out". Trying to "speak" to you through symptoms. It doesn't want you to yank out what is troubling you - just adjust "it".

Your relief could be just a blood test - bioidentical hormone adjustment away...

Breasts/Rings/Sleep/Moods...

In the book Natural Hormone Balance for Women written by M.D./O.B. GYN Uzzi Reiss with Martin Zucker is this "Estrogen Quick Check". It is on page 73 and it is really helpful to make a quick check of yourself to "diagnose" your Estrogen level for that moment based on your breasts, rings, sleep and mood:

THE BREAST CHECK

The status of the breasts can be used as a yardstick for

individualizing your dosage of estrogen replacement.

Touch and feel your breasts. lf they are full, painful, or growing, that generally indicates too much estrogen.

lf they have lost some of their fullness, or seem to be dropping, (drooping) that means more estrogen is needed.

Increase when your breasts are not full.

Decrease if they are enlarged or painful.

These basic criteria will serve you well, provided you also take enough progesterone. Women with breast implants cannot use this test to assess their estrogen dosage.

THE RING CHECK

Do you wear rings? You might not have enough estrogen.
lf you awoke drenched in perspiration, your estrogen level is very low. You need more.
lf you experience minimum hot flashes, your level is still not optimum. Take slightly more than you took the night before.

MIND AND MOOD CHECK

For many women, mental clarity and mood are extremely accurate measurements of estrogen replacement. Others, however, may find the mental and mood signs too subtle or overlapping to use as effective indicators.

Not enough estrogen. ls your mind a little foggy in the morning? Are you feeling a little down? Confused? Not in good control of your mood? Don’t care how you look? Your level may be lower than optimum" Take more than you took the night before.

Too much estrogen. Are you feeling uptight? Irritated? But your mind is clear? Your level may be too high. In addition, the human body contains 11 other estradiol metabolites that hardly anyone ever mentions.

Premarin® and Prempro™ are drugs made of 17 beta-estradiol and more than a dozen estrogen metabolites from horses. The makers of Premarin (the best-selling estrogen drug) like to refer to their product as "natural". "Premarin" short for "pregnant mares' urine (PMU- PREgnant MARe urIN)". Premarin is made by keeping artificially inseminated horses in stalls with collection bags strapped over their anatomy in order to collect their urine, which is then made into the drug. If the human consumption of horse urine is natural, then Premarin is natural.

(EW!! I think that is as much emotionally as it is physically. We have this "feeling sensor" that is built into us as women! Gary Smally explained it best to me in one of his books. He said women use both sides of the brain while men use only one. They literally are left-sided users only. Women use both and that is why we feeeeell "things" so much more

So when we feeeell like "I'm not myself", "something is wrong with me", "I don't feel good". We HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION to those feelings! Not just suck it up, live with it, write it off as complaining, or worse yet IGNORE it!! We should all journal our symptoms. Write 'em down and take notice. They are not just going to go away.

Too many times we run to a doctor instead of first "listening" to our own feelings and bodies. It might be telling us "eat right" "diet", "exercise", "you should take some vitamins", "stop stressing", "laugh more", "love more", "spend time with your kids", etc.

Sometimes we do need to run to our doctors and having a comprehensive, detailed journal/list would be great . Our doctors want to help us, but if we go in with this list of symptoms and this doctor isn't trained in bioidentical hormone replacement - most of the time they will just throw us some anti depressants like Prozac for depression or God Forbid synthetic hormones made from pregnant horse urine. They do this not because they don't want to help, or don't care, it is because it is all they have been taught to do! (read what LEF has to say about the study and facts of using Prozac and depression by clicking on the links)

Suzanne Somers was on Oprah and she said she has found "the Sweet Spot". She was talking about her body "sings" in balance hormonally, physically, and emotionally. She eats right, exercises, takes minerals/herbs & supplements when needed (this is where LEF comes in). But non of that would have made a diference in her life if she did all that but did not address her imbalance of hormones by taking Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Because after all she battled and won breast cancer like this!

(SS) had all the symptoms we complain of when not hormonally balanced. She calls them her "7 Dwarfs of Menopause; Itchy, Bitchy, Sweaty, Sleepy, Bloated, Forgetful, and All Dried Up! She really explains them in detail and specifically in her book "Sexy Years".

Also read a great article that LEF wrote about "Sexy Years". Here.

We would do well... to follow her footsteps.

Blog Card

So here is my new Blog Card...

I haven't been able to blog lately - school started and buisiness started getting a little busier - YAY! But last Sunday "it" happened again. Something that always happens to me...

I'm always starting up converstations wtih strangers, (or they do with me). Immediately these conversations are about health issues and symptoms they are having like; depression, sleeplessness, weight gain, migraines, no libido, etc. Inevitably, we will just barely being to skim the topic of bioidentical hormones, Life Extension, Suzanne Somers, etc when time runs out (next in line at the checkout).

Well this lovely lady and I struck up a conversation just like that. She was so lovely but obviously in health distress (who isn't?). It is unbelievable to me how most of the time our quality of life is not quality at all bc we are living in non-stop-symptom-land! Symptoms that are just unbearable, and never-ending!! We convince ourself to just "suck it up", and live with "it". But we don't have to!! WE CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!

This conversation with this lady, only enforced my hunger to blog and share as much as I can to anyone that will listen. Especially when I had to give her my email bc I actually couldn't remember this blogsites address - Hope you email me.
That's when I decided to make this business card about my blog. Good 'ole Vistaprint I swear by them for all my business printing needs.

So now I can just hand out my blog card to the person I am talking to. Because I just know that there will NEVER be enough time to discuss all we want to! And usually finding a pen or piece of paper to write down books & websites is a big ordeal..

So next time I will be prepared for who comes my way!

Suzanne Somers with Kathy Griffin

I was excited to be able to see a little behind-the-scenes with Suzanne Somers (SS). She blogged about her appearance with Kathy Griffin on her show "My Life on the D-List".

I was interested to see how (SS) was when she wasn't on Oprah or other interviews. I was not disappointed.

We were taken into her as Kathy said, "Compound". She has a lovely home nestled in the hills of Palm Springs. She gave a small tour of it after her cool appearance. Kathy called up to (SS) to let her know she was there. (SS) came down this track on the steep hillside leading to her home on a people mover called a "funicular" aka "Hill Hiker". It was pretty neat it has all sorts of names as per the website ("incline elevator, hillside elevator, hillside lift, tramway, cable car, people mover, chair lift, gondola and even a European funicular.").

Her home is warm and inviting and wow the "patio aka stage is so cozy with the pool, hillside, candles, and beautiful view. We should all be so blessed! But imho she TOTALLY deserves her life. LOOK at all she has done for those that will listen. Thank You Suzanne - I am so happy for you!

What's really cool is I found out (SS) and Alan are selling this beautiful home and the Realty Co has a website with beautiful picures of it. Les Baux De Palm Springs. The show only shows you a glimpse of its beauty - this is truly a gorgeous home - wow!

Anyways (SS) took Kathy to her organic garden, cooked a wonderful meal for a party she was giving to Kathy for getting her Palm Springs Walk of Fame Star. Her meal was prepared with all that she had picked from the garden. She was "on" Kathy for drinking diet soda, talked about health, eating healthy, etc. I do wish they had talked more extensively and more specifically about bioidentical hormones but they didn't :(

Regardless, I was entertained, but what I was "searching" for was to kinda check out (SS) see if she really does talk the talk & walk the walk - and yes I am happy to report - she does. She looked beautiful...Go check it out for yourself.

Suzanne and Kathy Pics
(SS) blogs about her appearance

Suzanne Somers on Kathy Griffin's "My Life on the D-List"
YouTube.com posts the whole show in Parts 1-5

Part 1 is a small part - a phone converstation w the 2 of them.
Part 2 is all Kathy and her adventures
Part 3 is (SS) and Kathy
Part 4 is with (SS) and the dinner party for Kathy
Part 5 is mostly Kathy but (SS) is in the end of it

(I am grateful for the poster of You Tube for posting the whole show)

Heartbreaking Sidelines...

A dear sweet friend of mine (hi sweetie) emailed me after I sent you all the notice that I have been blogging. Her email came after my cuz had contacted me a few days ago and prompted me to do this blogging. But even before these two, I have always received emails, and phone calls...

Its always the same - different loved one - but same symptoms or disease - ALWAYS the same answers...hormones, supplements, blood tests, research, links....etc

It just breaks my heart to hear of the pain and suffering and unhappiness and frustration!! I just wish everyone would just take a HUGE LEAP OF FAITH - and jump in to this whole process of getting hormonally balanced first before ever taking drastic life altering surgeries, medications, testing etc. I just hold on to the hope that if I can just get enough facts to you from LEF in specific with all the articles/links then "you all" would be convinced yourself. I did!

The heart-wrenching fact is some of you will listen and will WIN. But others will not and will suffer!

Anyways, I found myself asking "why? why?" over and over again.

Why are so many wonderful women and men suffering needlessly, endlessly with symptom upon symptom upon symptom? Why won't doctors wake up? Why won't they do the necessary work to really help all my loved ones? Why is it I can find out the answers- but they can't because they are not trained? That's bull!

I am not trained! I am not a Dr.! I was just sick and tired of no answers, being thrown a pill or two, and even made to feel stupid or as if I was a complaining hypochondriac! I left dr offices in tears, confused, unheard, succumbing to "their advice, since after all THEY know better". Again Bull! We know better! Our body "talks" to us - if we will listen and trust it!

I spent so much money, time, & tears on testing, dr appointments, pills and I only got worse and worse. My body was "screaming for help". I am going to take one post and list every stinking single one of my "symptoms" my body went through until I finally got my head out of my ass and said "Enough is Enough, there has got to be alternative answers to the one-size fits all, slap em a pill and see ya back here when you have side effects from them!" And you know what - there is!!

I was right - you can be too! Then I double-dog dare you not to want to shout it out to your loved ones - or at least blog!!

Why are we so resistant to alternative answers? Why is it so hard to believe in facts, years of testing, personal experiences, etc from someone other than mainstream doctors? Such as Life Extension, Suzanne Somers, Dr. Christine Northrup, Dr Uzzi Reiss, and every anti-aging-cutting edge doctor that thank God they all are telling us they themselves "saw the light"?

Why is it I can spend hours on a phone call or email with loved ones explaining and detailing facts and links and yet feel that that person will more than likely not listen or do what I know in my heart they should?

Why is it so hard to believe that hormones, rather an imbalance of them, is at the root of all symptoms and disease? It is so frustrating and sad some times to just sit on the sidelines and watch!!

EPT (no not the pregnancy test)

EPT = Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone.

I thought I might highlight the "feel-goods" (yes I know it's not a word) of each of these bioidentical hormones. NOT the synthetics!

Suzanne Somers put it best in her Oprah interview where she says that she has found her "sweet-spot" and her hormones are "singing." That is my hope bc I am not "there" yet but I will!! That is what I have learned the most on my journey - this takes time and patience!! I took 6 years in getting this unhealthy and unbalanced! And that is just from my hysterectomy. If I really wanted to be honest I would probably date it back to when I was a teen and was "estrogen dominant". Then I would say from that time to where I made the horrible decision to "test the new product study of Synarel". Or perhaps my ectopic pregnancy and removal of tube was where it started! I don't think I will ever know. So, I will press on, and live and learn and continue to share with those that will listen!

In the meantime I am passing on the wonderful, positive effects you can experience with EPT, when using the Bioidentical forms.

Btw, this info I pass on is what I have read, I am not making these claims myself since I am not a dr and I am not giving medical advice! I just wish to create a compilation of all I have read/researched from different doctors, books, websites, etc. For more detailed info click on my list over there -->

Estrogen (Estrone E1, Estriol E2, Estriol E3 ) said this..

"Hormones put you to sleep at night, and they wake you up in the morning. They control your blood pressure; they build up bone, maintain muscle tone, and lubricate joints. Hormones govern growth; they even make the body produce energy and heat. Hormones burn fat. Hormones govern the menstrual cycle & allow pregnancy (& birth) to occur. They fight stress, prevent fatigue, calm anxiety and relieve depression. Hormones make and keep memories. Hormones maintain correct level of sugar in the blood and tissues. They resist allergic reactions and infections. They stimulate your brain and your immune system."

Too many see hormones as teenagers being "hormonal", menopausal women being bitchy, irritable, and just old! But what I have learned to see is hormones as life or death of a body if they are not in harmony, and balanced.

It starts when we are young women and we have our periods. Some of us sail thru no pain, no symptoms nothing. For others of us we are irregular, heavy, have terrible cramping, headache, nausea, vomiting, moody, dizzy, etc.

As a mom of a teen who is going thru what I did when I was her age with all those symptoms above, I get it. I really listen to her and watch her as she experiences these issues. I am fascinated that as a woman of 44 and 7 yrs post hysterectomy - I am mirroring her hormonal imbalance symptoms. I have said that being in menopause is a lot like going thru puberty backwards!

My daughter is already showing signs of being "estrogen dominant" as I was at her age. I first learned of this from Dr Uzzi Reiss's book "Natural Hormonal Balance" and also from Suzanne Somers' book "Breakthrough" pages 112 & 145. They say that PMS is a by-product of LOW Progesterone. That if we are "estrogen dominant" it doesn't mean we have too much estrogen, it means we don't have enough progesterone! So if lack of Progesterone gives us symptoms of; swollen/painful breasts, can't sleep, moody, fuzzy thinking, depression, weight gain & bloating, yeast infections, headaches, painful joints, even allergies, and asthma - hmm then I wonder if this is the key?

Now when I was her age, I suffered endlessly with Endometreosis, cramping, migraines, and my periods were either heavy- heavy flow, or so irregular! At that age I was told I needed a hysterectomy and would never have kids (Thank God they were wrong I have 2). I was also told to get on the pill to regulate my periods.

Well time and mainstream dr care has not changed much! Today in 2009 - they are saying the same for my girl not a hysterectomy, but the pill! What? so I want to rush my girl on the pill at a young age, give her all the side effects of birth control pills, or worse yet give her a pill that she can take that will give her only 2-3 periods a year!!

OMG what are we doing to this generation of girls (and boys)?? This generation is being given Lupron shots (here) mine was Synarel. This generation has pills, shots, patches & creams that stop periods (sounds like menopause to me). This generation if we let it continue, and we don't seek answers our self or take heed to the advice/counsel given to us from those who have already been thru it all will set our girls up to be worse off than we are now!

All we are in need of is bioidentical hormones, vitamins and supplements instead of over the counter or prescriptions when we can and it is safe! Remedies made from nature, the way GOD intended it in the first place. Look at our founding fathers they had the "medicine man" who made herbs from natural sources. Or they just went to their own back yard and plucked out an herb, spice, fruit, vegetable, etc. I am sure they never went to their pregnant mare and gathered up some of its urine and said "ah, now this'll do the trick" EW!!

Bioidentical progesterone, (NOT PROGESTINS which is synthetic hormones made from pregnant mare's urine), was the answer for me then if only I had had a dr that prescribed that, and I know it is the same answer now. Because facts show, when there is estrogen dominance the lining of the uterus becomes thicker than normal and causes a heavy buildup of the uterine lining for excessive bleeding (heavier menstrual flow when you do get it). WOW this to me sounds a whole lot like Endometreosis!!

As I have been saying in all my posts these symptoms if left untreated & unheard, increases our risk to develop a slew of more serious symptoms, eventually diseases like uterine cancer just to name one!

Again, I am not a doctor, I am not giving out medical advice - I am just passing on what those before me are teaching. Or sharing my personal journey.

Yikes! What A List

If you are easily embarrassed or offended this list contains adult content- Do Not Read Any Further...

This list gives us an idea of what our body is lacking or getting too much of as far as Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone. This list is by no means the only syptoms we can experience and it certainly is only addressing those three hormones. Other, just as important hormones are not listed such as DHEA, Pregnenolone, Growth Hormone, etc. Talk later about those.

I realize this list can also get real confusing when one symptom mirrors the same symtom in each other! But that is when those wonderful blood tests "speak" up for us!

LEF offers blood tests right from their website, (and not just for hormones). If you click on the link below you will get a significant discount - compliments of Suzanne Somers website https://www.lef.org/SuzTest/BloodTestOrderForm.aspx

The right dr will be able see exactly what is lacking and what is getting an abundance! But remember as I have experienced unfortunately some of us run into a dr / pharmacist that just leaves us on our own! That is where this list helped me when I was "there" so perhaps it can do the same for you!

Also A BIG Thank You to Hystersisters.com this is where most of this list came from! But it is a compliation of my findings from many dr, books, articles, etc.

HysterSisters posts this list and has a disclaimer - as do I- He had a heart attack. He was rushed in to surgery where several stints were put in. Later they had to go back in only this time he died on the op table for 8 minutes. They did not send him home with much hope! But I had a STRONG determination to change that! He was also diagnosed with coronary artery disease from his legs to his jawbone.

I started immediately searching www.lef.org (see my Aug 4th post for detailed info on them). Anyways here is some important links I found just in case you need some:

Heart & Circulatory: or click here
Anemia
Arrhythmias
Atherosclerosis
Blood Clots (Thrombosis)
Blood Disorders
Cholesterol Management
Congestive Heart Failure
Coronary Artery Disease
High Blood Pressure
Homocysteine Reduction
Pulmonary Insufficiencies
Raynaud's Phenomenon
Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease

So many Statin drugs are given to patients with heart and arterial disease, and I discovered there are “other, alternative” ways to heal, repair and stop it without all the side effects. Just click on some of the articles (links) above and you will see studies, research, testing etc proving this time and time again! However, we the public are not hearing about it we have to find out about it ourselves – and that is where LEF comes in.

Long story short after seeing so many patients while in the hospital, our Veterans who fought for us, gave their lives for our protection are being thrown 4, 6, 10 bottles of different pills and sent on their way! When I would talk to these families and hear horror stories of how their loved one is back in the hospital because of all the side effects of all the pills they are taking- I had an “a ha moment” as Oprah puts it!

So, after hours and hours of reading all I could find on the subject, I ordered several of the recommended vitamins/supplements from LEF. Super Ubiquinol CoQ10 especially! Within days – days, my father in law was making milestone improvements! I would like to say he continued on this path of healing and taking the supplements. But once a doctor got a hold of him and started pumping him up with pills and ideas in his head he started doubting him self and what we had experienced. It was not long before he wound up deathly sick and back in the hospital. Well once again he is back to taking the supplements and this time WOW!! He is doing great! His doctors are amazed, and shaking their heads and telling him “well I guess we were wrong, keep doing and taking what you are taking” well duh!

This got me thinking…

What I read time and time again was how heart disease goes thru steps of symptomatic issues like if you trace the steps (aka symptoms) it reads like this:

9. Heart Attack
8. Coronary Artery Disease and Atherosclerosis
7. Prostate Issues
6. Hearing
5. Eyes & Vision
4. Snoring
3. Cognitive Issues
2. Can’t Sleep
1. Weight gain, esp belly fat, baldness, turning gray, etc.
All this coupled with no exercising, not eating right, etc.

It’s like our bodies are running along having an imbalance, throws us a minor symptom and waits. We don’t pay attention to it so it throws another symptom, and another and another until BAM we have a serious symptom or worse yet disease!

In every instance hormonal imbalance like a drop, decline, increase or resistance seems to be running through it all. Testosterone, & Dhea have been proven to always be lower in Congestive Heart Failure patients. The thing is facts show women suffer from heart disease after they are menopausal at a scarey rate! This is all because they are not replacing their hormones. This too leads to breast cancer. In my case I have no way of producing hormones with my ovaries gone - so I need all of them replaced if I don't want a chain of events such as my father in law has experienced! But that is me, and every woman and every situation is different.

In other words Andropause menopause for men is being experienced by my father in law. He had all these symptoms trying to “yell” at him to pay attention. When he didn’t, no doubt because he couldn’t find a doctor that would offer more than a pill, his body slipped more and more into disease! Just like mine!

Now I will not forget the fact that my father in law has a long time family history of death from heart attacks. And there is so much more going on that I don’t want to simplify heart attacks and coronary artery disease!!

Could we fight off all diseases at the symptom level or hormonal level? Could we just take the proper blood tests, and find the right kind of doctor and STOP diseases from every happening? Right kind meaning - alternative, cutting edge, anti-aging, etc. But how and where do we find one?

So I ask this…. At the Heart of it all – is it an imbalance of hormones?

HysterSisters

WARNING! SOME OF THIS POST IS GRAPHIC, AND THE LINKS HAVE DIAGRAMS & SENSITIVE ISSUES - ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK LOL : )

One day I was laying in agony from my latest surgery - a biggie a bilateral salpingo supracervical oopharectomy (acronym: LSH/BSO ) with bladder tack due to prolapse of bladder & cervix/uterus (aka total hysterectomy, no ovaries, no uterus, no tubes nothin’ left - just hollow “hello hello, echo, echo”). So anyways, I was laying there in agony, crying and pleading to God for help! My answer came in the form of a website - http://www.hystersisters.com/. My fellow hystersisters are forever in my heart

Click on these links below for detailed info on what surgeries I had done with my hysterectomy if you dare - lol

Hystersisters explaining (LSH/BSO):

Laprascopic supracervial hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo oophorectomy

E-Medicine Health explaining: Prolpased Bladder at emedicinehealth.com

(although I not only had a prolapsed bladder I also had a prolapsed cervix)

This website (hystersisters) is wonderful! Everyone is welcome female and male! It’s just full of hurting people, helping hurting people thru, VERY DIFFICULT times in their lives.

They have many articles, lists, diagrams, discussions, definitions, alternatives, and more regarding hysterectomies. I only wished I had found it before I had mine!

A multiple of female issues are discussed there and you will find answers from caring individuals who are going thru what you are (or already have). You will be able to reach out to total strangers who they in turn need your answers as well.

The only thing I would say is this – I personally do not believe in a few things that are discussed as options on hystersisters only bc I have already "been there, done that" - they are:

1. Synthetic Hormones (horse urine)
2. No Hormone Replacement

I realize they both need to be discussed, but my journey and experiences tells me – no way, no how will I ever use synthetic or go without! I know first hand what trying both do to your body and it is not good!! It is sickness, disease, and emotional instability!! No-sir-re-bob I am stickin’ with Bioidentical Hormones!

So whether you have had hysterectomy, told you need one, dealing with cancer, have questions regarding issues with hormones, suffering with endometreosis, or just plain need someone to “talk” to that can understand what you are going thru - well then this is the website for you!

I’m there at times just look for “Dawnjxsn” .

Who Can We Believe? (Anazoa)

One of the BIGGEST problems we face with this whole hormones thing - is who to believe, what to believe & who can we trust? Compounding pharmacies and doctors are popping up everywhere.

Unfortunately, not always legit, not always honest, not always educated - just making false claims and hurting women, men and children everywhere.

AH! But for me I can believe in Anazoa...

After discovering Suzanne Somers and Life Extension I knew I had to get a baseline blood test of how I was balanced (rather not balanced) after being with a lets just say - less than desirable compounding pharmacist since 2003. Being asked to take a blood test scared me bc anytime I have taken blood tests from doctors (non anti-aging ones) I am always told they came back "NORMAL" UGH! And, all my previous doctors and pharmacists only did hormone levels thru "saliva testing".

But, I have learned since, this is NOT the most accurate way to test hormone levels.

So I got all my necessary blood tests, (and yes blood tests are necessary) and found I was off the charts in a bad way! NO Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, dhea, pregnenolone, etc! But then why should I have any, what with no ovaries to produce these hormones - of course I have zero! Of course my doctors who did the hysterectomy failed to explain this little detail to me!

What I have discovered over the years is all compounding pharmacies, all pharmacists, and all doctors are not believable! It seems most dabble, or make claims they shouldn't. Or they try real hard but you find yourself questioning their advice. Worse yet they themselves tell you "gee never heard of that before!" They throw creams, gels, pills, & shots at you and send you on your way! Yikes! What you’re left is a bevy of symptoms! (see August 8th post for list.)

Example - when I first put on my Biest (that is estrogen cream) I get real cold at first. I could not figure this out so I asked them all. Guess what? they didn't know why. They thought it was my thyroid which I had tested and it was not. When in fact I did the research myself (we really do know our bodies better then any doctors) and discovered estrogen will do that as it hits your bloodstream. Thank you LEF for the answers.

Some doctors are just simply out to rake you of your hard earned money. Between blood tests, office visits, and then ordering hormones & supplements it can really be expensive. But wait - you have to say "your health is worth it" at a reasonable expense after all you are being proactive and that will save you money in the long run.

For instance I was told by a very respected pharmacist - blood tests should be administered when/if you are experiencing symptoms of imbalance. And definitely get blood testing follow-ups in the first few months, when you are first taking them. After that only if you or your doctors are unsure where your imbalance is coming from. Do Not Feel You Have To Do "Mandatory" Blood Testing every...dr. visit, monthly, 3 months, etc. One doctors even told me that the hormones I was on was a "controlled substance" which required me to have blood tests frequently! This is where my doctor was not being honest.

BUT THE IMPORTANCE WAS STRESSED TO ME, ON DEFINITELY HAVING FOLLOW-UP BLOOD TESTING IF I WAS EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS! OR IF MY DR AND I AGREED I NEEDED TO FOR OTHER MEDICAL REASONS!

This is why I was so relieved when my anti-aging/cutting-edge doctor started me on compounded bioidentical hormones from a wonderful pharmacy and pharmacists called Anazoa Health! After years of searching and using other supposed compounding pharmacies that only hurt me and put me way out of whack! I will forever use Anazoa Health compounding hormones!

Please Note: I am NOT a doctor and I am NOT giving out medical advice - just sharing with you my experiences!! Also - I do not work for Anazoa : )

http://www.anazaohealth.com/ContactUs/tabid/131/Default.aspx

This is their website and contact info. Ok here it is - click on this link www.lef.org/goodhealth .There website is http://www.lef.org/ but the other one is a special one.

I believe in LEF, and I can not thank them enough! Life Extension has a 29 year history of fighting for our rights to have supplements, minerals, herbs, blood tests, and more importantly alternative, natural answers to sickness, disease, and hormones! To see and read for yourself who they are and what they stand for click here http://www.lef.org/about/lef-scientific-achievements-in-health-and-longevity_01.htm .

I guess I better say this now: I do not work for or sell LEF products. I am only affiliated with them thru the website offer of membership and discounted product costs. I just purchase them after I educate myself and I see RESULTS! I want to take a whole post later and elaborate.

The greatest part of LEF to me is we can call them 24/7 and personally speak to doctors, specialists, naturopaths, nurses, cert nutritionists, and personal trainers who are a caring group of nutritional-savvy individuals with diverse backgrounds and credentials! Call them, I do all the time. No limit on how long calls take either.
1-800-226-2370

IF YOU KNOW ME PERSONALLY EMAIL ME AND I WILL GIVE YOU MY PERSONAL MEMBERSHIP NUMBER SO YOU CAN TALK TO THEM YOURSELF! Not just any hormones - Bioidentical Hormones. Seeing how my dr just slapped a patch on me and sent me on my way I was in desperate need for a different dr. BTW, that patch he sent me on my way was the hormones that are made from horse urine (more on that in another post).

In my search one day I heard about Suzanne Somers (SS) and her website. http://www.suzannesomers.com I spent the entire day looking it over. Before I knew it I was purchasing and devouring her first, second and third books "The Sexy Years", "Ageless" and "Breakthrough". Her website contains chapters and excerpts so check it out - but really just buy the books. I go back to them constantly because there is soo much to absorb!

Words can not express just how (SS) and her journey in these books opened my eyes! I will never be able to thank her enough!!! This is a woman who has gone thru quite a journey and she is telling all! She really, really, and I mean really understands hormones, anti-aging, menopause, supplements, health, and so much more! Not to mention battled and won cancer.

She is making it her life-long journey to be a voice for us. As she says on her website; "Learning about health and hormones has become my life's passion. While I don't feel comfortable telling you how to manage your health, I do want to expose you to the things I' have learned and the doctors I have worked with so you can gather research and then make the best decision for yourself. Anti-aging medicine has helped me to truly learn how to practice "health" care instead of "disease" care. THIS IS LIFE SAVING INFORMATION". http://www.suzannesomers.com/HealthAndHormones/

I am also really excited that she announced on her blog http://www.suzannesomers.com/Blog/2009/07/default.aspx that this Sept 18-20th on ShopNBC she will be presenting vitamins and supplements. Talk about them in next post!

Here is ShopNbc's website. http://www.shopnbc.com/Default.aspx

Thank you Suzanne-I am eternally grateful to you!!
Read her books I implore you!!

Next...Who Can We Believe? From innocence to awareness". Sometimes our journey is safe, happy, healthy - other times it is one of struggles, waiting, sickness & disease and most importantly - NO Answers!

The answers are there:
If we look hard enough!
If we are willing to be open to alternatives.
If we accept easy answers even if they seem too easy
If we are willing to invest in ourselves
I have learned - We all must take a journey (no matter how difficult it is) and learn from it!

The Key, The Answers, All Lie Within:
1. Educating ourselves thru books, magazines, articles, websites, etc.
2. Taking the time it requires getting the answers.
3. Finding & learning from other's who have paved the way for us.
4. Looking at the bigger picture!
Then get on your knees and pray until you know that you know - You Are On The Right Path of Your Own Journey...

Next...But Who Can We Believe?

Why Blog?

We all have our stories, our own journey and mine is no more special than anyone else's.
